Brilliant ideas

So, I had the grand idea that I would start a blog and record the adventures of our little family. We can all see how far I managed to keep that one going! I am officially ending this blog for the foreseeable future. I may pick up later on down the road when I can get my act together. Thank you for those who were interested in keeping up with our lives! Check back occasionally to see if I've changed my mind yet again (I am known to do that on occasion). Goodbye all, and best wishes! ; )

Rock A Bye Baby

I have been blessed with an amazing, healthy, happy baby boy that has added so much to many people's lives. He is quick to smile, and loves to make us laugh. He has always been very alert and observant of his surroundings. He also doesn't seem to need much sleep. Ever :) .

I have had so many days where I just couldn't see straight being so sleep deprived. I practically trip over the bags under my eyes! We've tried everything you could imagine to get him to sleep. Night lights, pitch dark, noise machines, silence, more blankets, less blankets, etc. Nothing works. Not only does he wake frequently at night, but he can't nap during the day longer than 15 minutes. I have been asked repeatedly, "doesn't he just pass out from being so tired?" The answer is no. He doesn't. Ever.

I have been given advice from many people.... the majority of that advice being that I am coddling him and just need to let him cry it out. Sorry, but no. That is NOT something I am comfortable doing.

So here I sit as I am writing this entry, rocking my baby boy so he can get some quality sleep. This is what I do for about an hour twice every day. Did I ever imagine having a baby that would need this? No. Are there other things that I sometimes wish I could be doing? Yes. Are they as important? Never.

I have come to love this time that I spend with my sleeping boy and realize that this stage will be over all too soon. He isn't going to need me to rock him forever and I know I will miss this someday.

Cinnamon Rolls and Sick Baby

For six days now we have had a sick baby on our hands. It is his first big cold, so it has hit pretty hard. We've been dealing with a fever, runny/stuffy nose, chest congestion, and cough. Add to all that 3 teeth about ready to break through! Needless to say, Javen hasn't been a very happy camper. I am glad to report that his fever was lower today, and one of the three teeth finally broke through. Hopefully we will get a little better sleep tonight (:

On a better note, I made cinnamon rolls from scratch for the first time. They were delish! I used a recipe with no yeast, so they were also pretty easy. I will have to post the recipe some time.

New Blogger on the Loose!

Well, I figured that I should join the 21st century and get myself out there in the digital world. As most of you probably know, I just recently joined the world of texting, so why not go all out and start a blog?! Hopefully this turns out to be the fantastic idea that I am picturing in my head :) I frequently find myself thinking, "I need to share this with someone," especially now that I have Javen. Then I find myself having to call or text 10 different people so I don't leave anybody out! I could post on Facebook, but there are many on there that would wonder why I would think they would care that Javen spent 15 minutes enthralled with the toothbrush Grandma and Poppa got him for Christmas. Long story short, this blog is for you people who care about such seemingly mundane activities in the life of the Struck Family. Enjoy!
