I have been blessed with an amazing, healthy, happy baby boy that has added so much to many people's lives. He is quick to smile, and loves to make us laugh. He has always been very alert and observant of his surroundings. He also doesn't seem to need much sleep. Ever :) .
I have had so many days where I just couldn't see straight being so sleep deprived. I practically trip over the bags under my eyes! We've tried everything you could imagine to get him to sleep. Night lights, pitch dark, noise machines, silence, more blankets, less blankets, etc. Nothing works. Not only does he wake frequently at night, but he can't nap during the day longer than 15 minutes. I have been asked repeatedly, "doesn't he just pass out from being so tired?" The answer is no. He doesn't. Ever.
I have been given advice from many people.... the majority of that advice being that I am coddling him and just need to let him cry it out. Sorry, but no. That is NOT something I am comfortable doing.
So here I sit as I am writing this entry, rocking my baby boy so he can get some quality sleep. This is what I do for about an hour twice every day. Did I ever imagine having a baby that would need this? No. Are there other things that I sometimes wish I could be doing? Yes. Are they as important? Never.
I have come to love this time that I spend with my sleeping boy and realize that this stage will be over all too soon. He isn't going to need me to rock him forever and I know I will miss this someday.
